Leaving babies alone

It is tempting when you are busy to leave your baby alone just for a moment with their bigger toddler sibling, or a pet dog or even in the bath while you reach for a towel. There are many dangers involved with doing this.

It is tempting when you are busy to leave your baby alone just for a moment with their bigger toddler sibling, or a pet dog or even in the bath while you reach for a towel.

Katrina Phillips, the chief executive of The Child Accident Prevention Trust outlines some of the unseen dangers of leaving your baby alone in a variety of situations.

These range from babies being given inappropriate objects that they might put in their mouth and choke on, to inadvertently provoking a pet dog.

Babies often have no idea that they are in danger and even as they slip under the bath water would not know to shout out or cry.
